Why Natural & Handmade

Good Reasons to Choose Natural and Handmade

A natural handmade soap is organic and natural. It is made up from chemical reaction between water, lye and oil. The different kinds of oil are used in making handmade soaps. Each type of oil has its own properties and it is this that makes a handmade soap slightly different from the others.

Natural Handmade Soaps are quite addictive after you begin to use them. They have a wonderful lather that leaves your skin so much healthier than the “soaps” you buy at your grocery store.

Are you aware of the difference between a regular soap and a natural handmade soap?

A natural handmade soap is organic and natural. It is made up from chemical reaction between water, lye and vegetable oil. The different kinds of oil are used in making handmade soaps. Each type of oil has its own properties and it is this that makes a handmade soap slightly different from the others.

The problem with commercial soaps that are mass-produced or brought from department stores or grocery stores is that they cannot be considered as soaps at all. They are in fact detergents, made up from petroleum such as gasoline or oil. This is the reason why regular soaps causes irritation on the skin. Individuals have also been seen suffering from extreme problems of irritations by using these kinds of petroleum products. Alkali is the most common irritant present in regular soaps. This compound however, doesn't exist in a natural soap and so individuals using natural organic soaps do not face problems of dry skin and irritation.

Have you ever felt your skin to get itchy, tight or flaky? If yes, it might be due to the use of regular soaps. The presence and high amount of alkali in the detergent-based soaps causes all these things to happen. Other than alkali there are also many other harmful ingredients included in these detergent-based soaps. They are alcohol, isopropyl, Tricoslan and BHT, which are mostly present in antibacterial regular soaps. These chemicals are not at all good for the skin.

Switching on to an natural handmade soap will stop cause all these problems and make the difference in the skin. Pamper your skin by using natural handmade soaps. They don't even cost much.

It's a misconception that you can buy organic handmade soaps in only one generic kind of bar. This is however a complete misconception. Bath soaps with natural and pure ingredients are available in various forms, shapes and sizes.

Soaps are an item that most of the individuals do not give a second thought on while purchasing. Soap is one of the most important products that can make the skin glow. By using a natural one for your skin you can ward off premature wrinkles on the skin as well as stop skin irritation.

The reason a natural soap is better for you is because it contains oil and glycerin. These are the main ingredient that get left out of the commercial variety. Such types of bathing bars are really detergents - NOT SOAP. Just look closer at the labels a little closer and you’ll see what we mean. There’s no soap in grocery store “soap”.

Some of the most popular oils used in homemade soap are:

  • Rice Bran Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Sesame Oil
  • Palm Kernel Oil
  • Castor Oil
  • Olive Oil

There’s a long list of other speciality oils that soap makers like to use and they are usually added as an addition to the main type used.

Depending on if your skin is sensitive, aging, dry or oily, there’s a soap just for you.

Variety is the spice of handmade soaps. Essential oils are used to give then a wonderful scents that we love so much. Just as the type of oil used is good for certain skin types, the essential oils are also helpful for any type of condition you may have.

Like a sponge, our skin absorbs chemicals. In-fact, today many medicines are given in “patch” form to be absorbed through the skin. Since, our skin cannot discriminate between synthetic and natural, or between harmful and beneficial, it may absorb harmful chemicals present in commercial soaps, shampoos and lotions.

What do you want to put on your skin?

Our bodies are constantly exposed to synthetic chemicals in air, water and food - why add to the problem by applying synthetic products to your skin and hair. The long term effects of synthetic chemicals on the body are still unknown. Most of the ingredients that are used to make Saiharita Handmade Soaps, Shampoos and body-care products can be found in your garden and kitchen. These all natural nourishing ingredients are packed with protein, vitamins and minerals.

Unlike “commercial” or “grocery” store soaps, shampoos, all of the ingredients in our handmade soaps products are 99% natural.

The popularity of natural handmade soaps is on the rise and with good reason.

It is an inexpensive, luxurious, healthy, treat you can give yourself everyday. Natural handmade soaps are not just for cleansing. They play an important part in natural skin care. Herbs and essential oils infuse skin with enriching nutrients. Handmade soaps are truly better. The commercial “soap” found in grocery store aisles is frequently not soap at all but a detergent bar made from synthetic materials, cleansers, stabilizers and animal by-products. These bars contain processed chemicals and quite often, petroleum-based ingredients, that are harsh on your skin and strip it of it’s natural protective oils and moisture. Unlike commercially produced soaps, Natural Handmade soaps do not leave your skin squeaky clean, stripped of its natural, protective oils.

Squeaky clean is for dishes--not human skin!

Commercial brands are frequently made from tallow (animal fat). Look for “Sodium Tallowate” on the soap label. These animal waste fats must be bleached and deodorized before used in commercial soaps.

Saiharita Aromas & Crafts Natural Soap is handmade entirely from pure food grade vegetable oils.

Commercially produced soaps frequently use pigments, and dyes that can cause skin sensitivity.

The colors in Saiharita Natural Soap come from spices, juices, teas, herbal infused oils and other natural ingredients. We do not use crayons, dyes or other synthetic substances.

Saiharita Natural handmade soaps have distinct aromas due to honey, grains, flowers, spices or herbs. Scented soaps contain pure plant essential oils from natures finest botanicals, NOT a synthetic oil.

Liquid soaps, creams and face cleansers are made up of mostly water. Personal care products that contain water, need preservatives to guard against the growth of bacteria and mold. Many commercial body and face cleansers contain parabens (methyl-, ethyl-, propyl- and butyl-paraben) as preservatives. Consumers have been warned about the toxic effects of parabens for quite a while.

Saiharita soaps, shampoos and lotions are not water-based and so there is no need for all of those preservatives. Commercial soaps use surfactants such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, DEA (DEA Lauryl Sulfate), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate and Alpha Olefin Sulfonate. Surfactants are foam boosting agents that are used by the cometic industry to increase the lather. They are powerful skin irritants. Our product making process uses only natural ingredients. We use all natural coconut oil, sesame oil, palm kernel oil and castor bean oil to create a bubbly, fluffy lather.

Commercial soaps use synthetic preservatives, stabilizers and anti-oxidants such as Tetrasodium EDTA, Trosodium etidronate and BHT. All of these synthetic agents are known to cause skin irritation, allergic or sensitization reactions. Our soap making process uses 100% natural ingredients. Our soaps are not made to sit for years on store shelves. Although use natural vitamin E oil and some essential oils as natural “preservatives”, our soaps DO have a shelf life.

One of the most dramatic differences between natural handmade soap and commercially prepared soap is the natural glycerin. The commercial soap making process allows for rapid mass production at the cost of quality. Commercial soap makers use salt to curdle a batch of soap in order to separate out the moisturizing glycerin, which is a natural byproduct of soap-making. The natural glycerin removed from the soap is used in the moisturizers and other cosmetics where it commands a higher price.

Have you ever noticed that the same company that sells you the soap that dries out your skin also sells you the lotion to moisturize your body after your shower?

Our natural handmade soaps retain glycerin, which occurs naturally in the soap making process. Glycerin is a humectant which means that it helps attract moisture to the skin. A quality bar of Saiharita Aromas & Crafts soap will often “sweat” in humid weather--because of the natural glycerin. Without this natural glycerin, you have a soap that dries out the skin. Our handmade soaps, made in small quantity controlled batches, retain all of the moisturizing glycerin, so your skin feels soft, silky and healthy. For a fraction of the cost of the average skin conditioner, you can experience the purest soap you can get, and restore your natural skin balance within a few weeks.  You will be pleasantly surprised to find you no longer need all the lotions and creams previously required to remedy what commercial detergent bars do to their skin.

Some soap companies use the exact same recipe for every bar of soap. They simply change the fragrance. At Saiharita Aromas & Crafts we recognize that everyone's skin is different. We all know that a lotion that works for one person does not work for another; or a perfume that smells divine on one person does not have the same scent when applied to a different person's skin. Even as seasons change our skin also changes. Your favorite bar of soap in the summer may differ from your favorite winter soap.

For that reason nearly every one of our soaps is made from a different recipe.  Sometimes we simply tweak our basic recipe--a bit more of this oil or a little less of that. We add special oils and butters, natural ingredients, and skin loving essential oils.  Lather, texture, and the feel on your skin may vary with each soap. With a wide variety of recipes and essential oil blends, we are sure you will find a soap just right for you.

More seriously........

On average 60% of what you put onto your skin is absorbed into the bloodstream, this is the principle that nicotine and hormone patches work on. Considering the average person uses at least 3-4 beauty products everyday, she is likely to be exposed to 175 potentially harmful chemicals in the process!

Beauty products contain chemicals for many reasons - to make them look and smell appealing, to create more lather or to give them a longer shelf life. However, some of the worrying effects of chemicals commonly found in toiletries include, being potentially carcinogenic, interfering with hormone regulation and causing skin and eye irritation. In fact some of the chemicals used are also found in ant-freeze, brake fluid and engine degreaser!

If you suffer from allergies to ingredients in conventional beauty products you are not alone, almost 3 in 10 persons are affected! The number of people suffering from skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis is also on the increase.

Using natural products is more eco-friendly. Once the product is washed away down the drain the ingredients breakdown harmlessly without polluting the environment. By contrast some chemicals found in conventional toiletries take a long time to breakdown, or are not biodegradable, so they pollute ecosystems and make their way back into the food-chain.
